Taliban attack on Afghanistan's northern district repulsed: army

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, May 11 (Xinhua) -- The Taliban militants' offensive to overrun Imam Sahib district in Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province has been repulsed and the militants fled after leaving over two dozen bodies behind, army officer in the province Abdul Razaq said Tuesday.

"Taliban rebels launched massive offensive on Monday to capture Imam Sahib district within day but the security forces backed by fighting planes retaliated and forcing the insurgents to flee after leaving 28 bodies behind and 10 more injured," Razaq told Xinhua.

The official confirmed that three security personnel have also been killed and five others injured.

District governor Nazikmir Akbari also confirmed the fighting, saying the insurgents have suffered huge casualties.

Taliban militants have yet to make a comment.
